Notice of competitive examination
Diploma of Higher Training in Architecture and Urban Studies (Yearly specialization)
Diploma of Scientific post-graduate Specialization in Architecture and Urban Studies (Triennial specialization school)

Art. 1 - Number of places and characteristics of the School
The European Higher School of Urban Architecture of the Fondazione Internazionale per gli Studi Superiori di Architettura advertises a competition for qualifications and examinations for
- 35 places for high education in Architecture and Urban Studies (annual curriculum)
- 5 places for the specialization in Architecture and Urban Studies (triennial curriculum)

The School seeks to meet the widespread and sometimes confused demand for urban transformation of the contemporary city through an excellent academic training for young architects who are interested, theoretically and practically, in tackling the major issues posed by architectural and urban design today.
The last goal of the School is the high education in Architecture and Urban Studies through three courses of research (Architecture, City, Territory) and confers the yearly Diploma of High Education (annual) in Architecture and Urban Studies and the Diploma of scientific post-graduate specialization (triennial) in Architecture and Urban Studies.
This second Diploma is equivalent, at request of the part, to the doctor’s degree issued by Italian Universities (D.M. of the 14.07. 2006 / Official Gazette sg. 176 of 31.7.2006)

The Teaching activity provides a first common module (October 2006-december 2007) to the two courses with compulsory participation to 500 hours of high specialization courses and seminars in Italian, English, and Spanish by teachers of eminent international fame. Teaching activities of the first module involve a full-time engagement of the students.The achievement of the High Specialization Diploma with yearly curriculum is subordinate to the participation to all academic activities, to the getting through of intermediate proofs and to the discussion of the thesis project of the diploma consisting in a project formulation on a subject agreed with the Teaching Body and approved by the Scientific Committee on a project prepared by the student.
At the end of the yearly Course a list will be drawn up for the admittance to the triennial curriculum. Students admitted to the continuation of scientific specialization Course will attend intensive courses for the acquisition of advanced knowledge in the subjects of interest , in the second year, while the third one will be totally devoted to the research, under the guide of tutors put in charge for the student, and the elaboration of the final thesis project of Diploma.

The Scientific Committee, of the School is formed by four Directors: Uberto Siola (University of Naples “ Federico II”), Vittorio Magnago Lampugnani (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich – Politecnico di Zurigo), Hans Kollhoff (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich – Politecnico di Zurigo), Eduard Bru (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona - ETSAB).

The Teaching Body is formed by teachers: Giulio Barazzetta (Politecnico di Milano), Paolo Belardi (Università di Perugia), Alessandro Benevolo (Brescia), Nicola Braghieri (Università di Genova), Marianne Burkhalter (Istituto Svizzero Federale Politecnico di Losanna – EPFL), Rita Capezzuto (Milano), Francesco Collotti (Università degli Studi di Firenze), Luca Gazzaniga (Lugano), Paolo Giordano (Seconda Università degli Studi di Napoli), Aquiles Gonzáles Raventós (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona - UPC), Neus Lacomba (Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona - UPC), Fabio Mangone (Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”), Pasquale Miano (Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”), Marco Navarra (Università di Catania), Pietro Carlo Pellegrini (Università degli Studi di Genova), Marella Santangelo (Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”), Federica Visconti (Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II”).

Art. 2 - Admittance Requirements
Italian and foreign citizen who want to be admitted must have achieved the degree Diploma according to the old rule, or specialist degree. Or equal foreign qualification in compliance with regulations in force, in architecture.
It’s stated that, according to the D.M. of 14.07.2006 (published in the Official Gazette sg. 176 of 31.07.2006), according rules of the following art. 9, the admission to the triennial curriculum is only for European citizen who are not 35 on the date of the presentation of the application.

Art. 3 - Application and application deadline
The application to be admitted to the competitive examination drawn up in plain paper according annexes A and B (available on www.fondarch.it) and completed by documents of the following art.4, addressed to the Scientific Committee of the School must be send in a registered folder with receipt within the 23of September 2006, at the following address :

The folder must bear the address of the sender and the wording “Application for the Admittance to the European Higher School of Urban Architecture”
Delivery by hand is allowed to the above mentioned address, within the same term and on the following days and time: Monday – Friday 9.00-19.00.

In the application the candidates must declare, under their own responsibility:
a) surname, name, date and place of birth;
b) nationality
c) place of residence
d) academic qualifications
e) mailing address for the communications related to the competitive examination
Applicants also have to enclose for the announcement a copy of a valid identification card/passport.

Art. 4 - Application documents
The application must be accompanied by:
1) curriculum vitae and studiorum
2) certificate of degree according the old rule, or of specialist degree, in plain paper, with the votes of each single exam of profit and degree and the date of it.
3) Extract of the thesis of degree in A4 or A3 format (max 15 pages)
4) Portfolio showing representative examples of design work (academic or professional) publications, awards etc..., in A3 format (maximum 20 pages);
5) Written proposal that outlines the motives and objectives to attend the School in A4 format (maximum 10.000 characters)
6) An undersigned declaration of the knowledge of English and, for the foreign candidates, of understanding Italian;

A restitution of the titles can be asked by the candidates with a debit for mailing expenses within 30.10.2006 ; after this term the School is not liable anymore of their preservation.

Art. 5 - Board of Examiners and admission to the examination test
The Board of examiners of the competitive examination is formed by the Scientific Committee and by two members of the Teaching Body or experts of great fame, suggested by the Scientific Committee.

The Commission will meet on the 25th of September 2006 and first examines the academic qualifications and documents presented by the candidate also in relation to the research lines proposed by the School.

Those who submitted the application must present themselves, with their identification card, on the 25th of September 2006 at the seat of the Fondazione Internazionale per gli Studi Superiori di Architettura, Palazzo delle Arti Napoli (PAN), Via dei Mille,60- Naples, to stand up to the admittance tests.

Art. 6 - Written test, interview and training pass-lists
Admission tests is divided in a written test and an interview which will take place on the 25th of September 2006 at the Fondazione Internazionale per gli Studi Superiori di Architettura, Palazzo delle Arti (PAN), Via dei Mille, 60 – Naples.
The written test concerns on themes about the design of the city and of the territory.
The interview is public and is above all about the academic qualifications presented by the candidate. During the interview the language skills of the applicants are checked.
The Board, focusing on the valuation of the academic qualifications and the interview, establishes the list of the winners and the pass-list of the qualified candidates, with valuations expressed in tenths.
These lists are stuck on the Register of the School within the day after the tests.

Art. 7 - Nomination of the winners
Winners must present within the prescribed term the documents as the following art. 8. In case of renunciation one or more winning candidates before the beginning of the teaching activity, the place is attributed immediately according the pass-list of the qualified applicants.

Art. 8 - Documents for the admission to the School
Within the 2nd of October 2006, winners of the competitive exam must present to the management of the School, to avoid the loss of the place, the following documents:
a) Certificate of degree according to the old rule, or specialist degree, or an equal European title of degree, with the votes of each single exam of profit and degree;
b) Declaration of acceptance of the rules expected by the internal School’s regulations with the exemption by the Fondazione from any liability for the consequences derived by their non-observance;
c) Three passport photos of which one counter-signed.

Art. 9 - Teaching duties of the students
The School awards the Annual Diploma of the Higher Training in Architecture and Urban Studies to applicants who, regularly enrolled for the fulfilment of any requested formality and for having passed the admittance test, a) who attend the yearly curriculum for almost the 75% of the total of the expected hours, for the didactic activities and the training; b) who present a thesis project on a subject approved by the Scientific Committee.
The School also awards the Diploma pf Post-graduate Scientific Specialization in Architecture and Urban Studies to candidates who have, regularly enrolled for the fulfilment of any requested formality and passed the admittance test at the end of the Higher Training Course, according the bounds of the seats available of which art.1 and characteristics of art.2 a) who attend the triennial curriculum for almost the 75% of the total of the expected hours, for the didactic activities and the training; b) who present a thesis project, of scientific and original character, on a subject approved by the Scientific Committee.
The thesis will have to be handed over in triple copy one month before the end of the triennium of the Course, starting from its inauguration. Students will have the chance to ask to the Scientific Committee one year of extension. The request must be presented within three months before the end of the Triennium. The thesis elaboration to take the Diploma, must be supervised by a tutor chosen by the Scientific Committee, inside or not the Teaching Body. The assignation of the Diploma is linked to the valuation of the thesis of the diploma, in a final test by a commission appointed by the Scientific Committee , in the forms mentioned below.
The Committee formed for the evaluation of the thesis of the Diploma, at the end of the triennial curriculum, will be composed by three members of high international fame of the disciplinary sector of the Architectural and Urban Composition and Planning. Not more than two members of the board can belong to the Teaching Body of the School.

Art. 10 - General rules
Winners must be present on the date that will be communicated to them to start their activity. For serious reasons, the School can allow one year of suspension, to all intents and purposes, and for only one time. Students of the specialization can’t accept engagements which are incompatible with their duties.
In Italy are valid also, for the courses of the School, the incompatibilities expected for the attendance of the doctor’s degree.

Art. 11 - Scholarship and facilities for the students
Winners take advantage of a total gratuity of the courses, of the use of the technological equipments of the School.
The Fondazione intends to provide, taking into account each case also according to a real documented financial familiar situation which justifies it, possible shares to attend the courses.

Art. 12 - Terms of Processing Personal Data
According to art.13 of the Italian law 196/2003, Code in point of protection of the personal data, we wish to inform all candidates that the handling of the personal details provided to participate to the competitive exam or acquired for this purpose by the Fondazione Internazionale per gli Studi Superiori di Architettura has as the only aim the fulfilment of the activities of the competitive exam and the following proclamation of the winners.
The handling will be carried out at the seat of the Fondazione, in Naples, in Via Francesco Crispi n°69, by the use of informatics procedures, in the necessary ways and limits to pursue the above-mentioned aims.
The owner of the processing, will have to take care in order that the data, in particular sensitive and judicial details, are preserved and controlled, to minimise the risk of destruction or loss whether by accident or not, of unauthorized access to the data or of processing operations that are either unlawful or inconsistent with the purposes for which the data have been collected.
The conferring of the personal data is linked to the attendance to the competitive exam, and necessary to value the requirements to participate and their missing indication can bar this evaluation.
The ordinary, sensible, and legal personal details will not be widespread.
Attendants will enjoy all the rights of Art. 7 of Legislative Decree n° 196/2003, and in particular, the right to obtain the confirmation of the existence or not of the personal data and their communication in intelligible form, and to obtain the indication of their origin, of the aim and formalities of the handling , of the applied logic to the informatics handling, the essential elements for the identification of the owner and persons in charge, of the subjects or of the categories of subjects which can come to knowledge as persons in charge or appointees.
Finally to all attendants is recognised the rights to access, to ask for data updating, to object data processing, the rectification, the supplement of data, erasure and anonymity or blocking of data that have been processed unlawfully. Candidates have the right to oppose to the processing personal data, in part or completely, for proper reason. Attendants can obtain the list of data processors by writing to Fondazione Internazionale per gli Studi Superiori di Architettura, in Naples, in Via Francesco Crispi, 69, as processor pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 196/2003. The person in charge for the handling of the personal data is Miss Barbara Carrano, domiciled for this aim at the Fondazione.
